Alcohol abuse in youth is suddenly becoming a very important concern in Massachusetts. That is not to say that there was no concern about teen alcohol abuse in Massachusetts earlier, but in recent times, the issue has become much more complicated. Youth are indulging in a much larger number in binging in the state, which is the number one cause of youth related road accidents. By definition, any session that has the person consume more than five drinks together is a binge session, but most youth have a lower alcohol tolerance than that, so the issue becomes graver in them.
It is reported by substance abuse resources in Massachusetts that 4 in every 5 youths in the state have had their first taste of alcohol before they turn eighteen. Why is this more serious? It is more serious because the same authorities on substance abuse in Massachusetts state that people who begin consuming alcohol before they are 18 years of age have four times more chances of becoming alcohol addicts than those who have their first taste of alcohol after they are 25 years of age.
But the danger does not stop there. Youth who have gotten use to the taste of alcohol will soon want to try other substances. They will quickly turn to marijuana addiction if it is available to them. Most of them may then graduate to cocaine or heroin addiction, and some of them may also get into the very lethal methamphetamine addiction. So the next time you see a young person tipping a glass of alcohol, you must see it as only the tip of an iceberg. If there is someone in your family with such a problem, get them to some form of addiction treatment in Massachusetts without any further delay.
